ZenGo is a user-friendly cryptocurrency wallet designed to offer both security and ease of use, with a focus on simplicity for beginners. Unlike traditional wallets, ZenGo eliminates the need for private keys, opting instead for a unique combination of facial recognition and threshold signatures to secure your assets. In this guide, we explain how to set up and use the ZenGo wallet.
Step 1: Download and Install ZenGo
To get started, download the ZenGo app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Once the app is installed, open it and follow the prompts to create a new account.
Step 2: Set up your account
When you first launch the app, you will be asked to create a new account. The setup process involves:
- Identity Verification: ZenGo uses facial recognition for account security. You’ll need to take a selfie to complete this step.
- PIN Code: Set up a 6-digit PIN for additional security. This PIN will be required for transactions and account management.
Step 3: Secure your wallet with Biometric Authentication
ZenGo offers advanced biometric authentication using Face ID (or fingerprint recognition, depending on your device). This feature ensures that only you can access your wallet without relying on traditional private keys.
During the setup process, follow the on-screen instructions to enroll your face (or fingerprint) for seamless, secure access.
Step 4: Deposit cryptocurrency
Once your wallet is set up, you can deposit cryptocurrency by:
- Selecting “Receive”: Choose the cryptocurrency you wish to deposit, such as Bitcoin (BTC) or Ethereum (ETH).
- Scanning the QR Code: Use the provided QR code or copy the wallet address.
- Completing the Transaction: Send cryptocurrency from another wallet or exchange to your ZenGo wallet address.
ZenGo supports a wide range of cryptocurrencies, making it versatile for various assets.
Step 5: Buy cryptocurrency
Select “Buy” from the home screen.
- Search for your preferred crypto and select it.
- Enter the amount of crypto you want to purchase.
- Select BTC Direct & payment method you’d like to use.
- Select the Buy button and complete the remaining steps.
Step 6: Back up your wallet
ZenGo’s backup process is innovative, as it does not require a traditional seed phrase. Instead, it uses Multi-Party Computation (MPC) technology. Your wallet backup is secured in the cloud using encrypted fragments.
To ensure you can recover your account in case of a lost or damaged device:
- Enable backup: Follow the in-app prompts to complete the backup setup.
- Verify backup access: Make sure you can access your backup method by periodically testing recovery options.
This method provides both convenience and enhanced security compared to traditional seed phrase backups.
