As of February 25, 2025, BTC Direct has ceased support for Tether (USDT) in line with the European Union's new Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulations. This decision was made to fully comply with the requirements set forth by European legislation for Crypto-Asset Service Providers (CASP).
Why did BTC Direct cease supporting USDT?
The regulations from the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) require crypto platforms, such as BTC Direct, to discontinue their support for USDT, which is considered a non-compliant stablecoin, by the end of Q1 2025. The aim of this measure is to regulate the markets and improve transparency around stablecoins.
