3DS (3D Secure) is an extra layer of protection designed to enhance the security of online credit card transactions. When you're using your credit card the 3DS protocol adds an authentication step to make sure the person making the purchase is the actual cardholder.
Verification
When you make a payment with a credit card that supports 3DS, you will be asked to complete an additional verification step before the transaction is finalized. This typically involves:
- A one-time password (OTP)
Sent to your registered mobile number or email, which you must enter to confirm the transaction. - A password or PIN
In some cases, you may be required to enter a password or PIN that you previously set up with your bank. - Biometric authentication
Some banks might also offer biometric verification like fingerprint or facial recognition.
Once the authentication is complete, the payment is processed, adding an extra safeguard against fraud.
