On June 18, 2025, BTC Direct received an official license from the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) under the new European regulation, the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR).
With this license, BTC Direct complies with the tightened requirements for crypto service providers within the EU and is fully authorized to continue offering its services—well ahead of the end of the transition period on June 30, 2025.
What does the MiCAR license entail?
The MiCAR license is mandatory for all parties wishing to offer crypto services in the Netherlands and other EU member states.
BTC Direct has obtained this license for the following core activities:
- Exchanging fiat money for crypto and vice versa
- Executing transfers of crypto-assets
Higher standards for the industry
Previously, crypto service providers were only subject to anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorist financing (CFT) regulations. MiCAR introduces a much broader regulatory framework, including stricter requirements in areas such as:
- Transparency of services
- Governance and business operations
- Execution of services
- Ensuring business continuity
Trusted services, secured under MiCAR
By obtaining this license, BTC Direct demonstrates compliance with the high standards set by European regulation. Customers can rest assured that they will continue to use a secure, transparent, and regulated platform for their crypto activities.
